Start Here, In This Order

There is a truly staggering amount of PCOS content online, and a lot of it disagrees with the rest of it. This is what I’d tell a friend who’d just been diagnosed: four steps, about eight weeks, and no $400 supplement haul required.

Step one · Week 1

Get the right labs

Fasting insulin (not just glucose), HbA1c, total and free testosterone, DHEA-S, LH/FSH, SHBG, TSH, vitamin D, ferritin. Most of us get handed about half this list and told everything looks fine.

Step two · Weeks 1-2

Sort out blood sugar before anything else

Protein at breakfast, fibre before starch, a short walk after your biggest meal. Deeply unsexy. Does more for your cycles, skin, energy and cravings than anything you can buy in a capsule.

Step three · Weeks 3-6

Add two supplements. Two.

Inositol at 40:1, and vitamin D if your test says you’re low. Give each one eight to twelve weeks before you decide it isn’t working.

Step four · Week 6+

Track it, then adjust

Basal temperature or LH strips to confirm ovulation, a rough skin log, a monthly note on energy. It’s not glamorous, but data beats vibes every time.

So What Brought You Here?

Just diagnosed

You finally have a word for it. Here’s what that word means — and, just as importantly, what it doesn’t.

Skin is the issue

Cystic, cyclical, always the jawline. What to do internally and topically, in that order.

Trying to conceive

How to confirm you’re ovulating, and what the inositol evidence actually shows.

Tired. Always.

The 3pm crash, the 11pm second wind, and the cortisol loop underneath both.

Completely Fair Questions

No. Quality, quantity and timing matter far more than cutting them out, and severe restriction tends to raise cortisol and end in a 9pm standoff with the pantry. Pairing carbs with protein, fat and fibre flattens the glucose response enough for most of us.

Inositol trials usually run 12-24 weeks before cycle changes show up. Spearmint studies measured androgen changes at 30 days. If a label promises results in seven days, that’s a marketing department talking, not your endocrine system.

Absolutely not. I’m a patient and a researcher, not a clinician. Everything here exists to make your next appointment more productive — bring the lab list, bring your questions, bring a friend if they’re the kind of doctor who talks fast.

Affiliate commissions on products we link to, at no extra cost to you. Rankings get decided before any affiliate programme is applied, brands can’t pay for placement, and anything we can’t recommend honestly simply doesn’t get a link. That’s the whole arrangement.

Step three

Then — and Only Then — the Supplements

Once your labs are back and your blood sugar has calmed down, a short list is worth adding. Every product gets scored on evidence, dose, purity testing and cost per day. Nothing is ranked by what it pays us.
